SARA K WHITE is a Production Designer for feature films, television, music videos and commercials.

Growing up with a paper route in southern Ohio, Sara spent her childhood making stories about the homes she passed, often drawing spaces and furniture to accompany her narratives. She nurtured those passions in college, focusing on interior design and poetry – each discipline crystalizing emotion into form. During her time, she helped found the Short Vine Literature & Art Magazine, and graduated with Honors in Interior Design.

Degrees in hand, Sara headed to New York City. She started at Studios Architecture where she developed designs for clients such as Grey Advertising, the Oxford University Press, and Bloomberg L.P., and was active in the creative writing and poetry community. But those worlds didn’t merge until a filmmaker friend asked her to create a 1950s Mermaid Lair, hooking her on the magic of production design. She was privileged to serve as Art Director in Residence at the Sundance Directors Lab for several years before embarking on her career as a Production Designer. There she honed her ability to work with storytellers, designing spaces to enchant an audience or play in their subconscious.

Her early films include Gillian Robespierre’s daring comedy Obvious Child, which premiered at Sundance 2014 and Sam Fleischner’s Stand Clear of the Closing Doors, winner of a Special Jury Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival. She also designed Silas Howard’s powerful trans family drama A Kid Like Jake, Sîan Heder’s maternal treatise Tallulah, and Cary Murnion & Jon Millot’s dystopian drama Bushwick, all which have premiered at Sundance. Her recently completed work includes Vincent D’Onofrio’s period western “The Kid” for Lionsgate and Tom Perrotta’s TV adaptation of “Mrs. Fletcher” for HBO. She has worked on commercial campaigns for Kodak, Delta, Sprite, and music videos for Beach House and The Mountain Goats. She is excited to introduce HBOMax’s “The Flight Attendant,” to the world in Fall of 2020.
